Bruce,

using your numbers to solve for risk of ruin, I come up with .006 - should that be interpreted as a percentage, or as a decimal? for instance, if I had instead obtained .5, would I be totally [censored]?

It's a decimal. And yes, 0.5 would be bad.

yeah just checking, cause .5% would be nice, whereas .5 the decimal would suck balls.

.006 is .6%, and .5 is 50%.

I should add:

These figures work from/calculate your starting bankroll and they assume you never remove any money that you win. If you remove e.g. half your winnings, then you should work with a halved win-rate to establish your risk of ruin or your acceptable starting bankroll.

Anyone who "maintains a 500BB roll" by cashing out amounts over 500BB has a 100% risk of ruin, in theory: if you play long enough you will always suffer arbitarily large downswings.
