As soon as he called the t50,000 I thought it was very possible he might have KK or AA but I thought me would play the same way with AK and 99 - JJ and possible even 77 - 88. In retrospect I am not sure if I should have treaded more carefully or if this is just one of those bad luck situations where most people lose money.

This was the $30+3 tonight on Party and each spot moved up is a pretty good cash gain but I always look at it as if I am playing for first and nothing less.

Any thoughts/critiques?

Why are you raising 6XBB+?

I don't see how you could get away from this hand after the flop. Go all-in. He had K's. It happens.

I actually had a bit about this before I posted but erased it, I mainly put that much in for two reasons.

1) I was trying to induce the smaller stacks to go all-in. This may or may not be good reasoning but it kind've goes hand in hand with

2) I had a decent read on most of the people at the table, and many of them were willing to go all-in with Ax. Also, many were willing to call decent size bets with hands like 9To or 78s.

Overall, I wanted to induce action from the smaller stacks but scare away people with the larger stacks by showing them I was committed to the hand.

Again, whether that is good reasoning or not I leave up to others to critique.

I think it was fine. Just unlucky you had to meet up with KK.

I don't see how you can get away from this hand with that flop. That was one time with pocket queens you probably wish an ace had fallen.

After the flop I would've gone in check and call mode. He might be holding AK for sure .. but what if he holds 77 or 66 ? I think I would have a hard time folding to an all-in with that nice overpair (assuming you went into check call mode and he might go all-in), but in the end I probably would fold because with that stack of yours I want to move up as much as possible in the money. Btw, what is the point of the first or nothing strategy ? More gamble less money is the plausible outcome.

I need to specify that I don't like to take possible gambles when I don't have to, and that I can throw away the best hand without beating myself too hard for it, you're just gonna fold the best hand sometimes and that's as much a part of winning poker as anything else. If you can't bring yourself to fold the best hand (unknowingly of course...), then you're gonna get in trouble.

I was hoping someone else would respond but since no one else has here are my thoughts to the post by sourbeaver:

1) It seems the play you are advocating is a bit weak-tight to me. I may be wrong, but in a mtt such as this, it seems to me you have to be willing to go in when you think you have the best hand, even though it is not for sure.

2) Also, I may be wrong, but as far as I know, it is generally advocated by many people to play for first always. If you let the amount of money you win by moving up positions influence your play, you are going to miss opportunities and put yourself in a bad position in the end. This has been my understanding at least.

Again, I leave my comments and play up to critique by others. I have begun to wonder if I consider QQ too strong.

How can you fold overpair with a pot that juiced? I just don't see it happening. I do think there is some merit for checking and calling here, though, to make sure people move in with TP and stuff like that which is bad. I don't see checking and folding to be a good move here, ever, though.
