The trouble with checking the turn is it may induce Villain to bluff you out of the pot. Another line you could take would be to bet ~1/2 the pot, which will let you get away from a large raise and will also give you reasonable odds to chase your boat if you get called and you're behind (3 to 1 when you're at worst a 3.5 to 1 dog), while discouraging a bluff (at least more than checking does).
