Default Anyone know anything about art?

As in, if I want to buy a painting, lets say a max of like 5k, what I should get. Or is there any new artist that is kinda famous but not that famous that I could look at. I know random, but hey maybe someone knows something...

Art makes a lousy investment. Buy things you like.

That said, buy my prints...

What kind of art do you like? I know which artists I enjoy, but I'm not sure if it would match your taste. I'd have to say that if I was going to spend a good amount of money on a painting, I would get a Warhol or a Keith Haring piece.

There are also lots of new artists that will have artwork for a lot cheaper than this, but they have great [censored].

So, I just threw out a number (obviously I would like to get more for less), not trying to be pretentious. I like impressionist art alot. I also like work by Kandinsky and work by Rothko, to try and give you an example of stuff that I like.

ebay and artbyus.com are pretty good places to look for art, you could probably find something you really like, for really cheap.

If you want something contemporary then spend less than 5k and like everyone said, buy something you like (assuming you're talking painting here).

If you're trying to invest in older art 5k isn't much to work with for anything that you can be realtively sure will appreciate in value.

So, do what everyone in the thread said, and buy something you like. My gf is just getting started as a dealer, just picked up her first client a few weeks ago. Can definitely hook you up with awesome stuff for cheap, just trying to get her and her client's names out there. PM me if you want more info.

buy your art on ebay if you dont know what you are doing. ebay is a wholesale market, which means that it is very unlikely that you will be able to purchase art for less than what it goes for on ebay, because if you could, they would just ebay it instead.

there are good artists on ebay. if you want to make sure you dont get ripped off, buy artwork that already has bids on it. this way you at least know that there is a market for the painting you purchased.

here are a couple of guys who i really like, but are not very expensive (300-600 range).

Default Old Masters Reproductions

How about getting some Old Masters Reproductions. There is no shame in owning fake oil on canvas paintings of the Impressionists and others. I read Barry Greenstein has a dozen old master reproductions in his mansion.
