wow. you did not mention this info in the original post, and yet you jump on somebody for giving a reasonable, yet short solution. well done. hell, i assumed that either dsl or cable was available everywhere by now. perhaps he/she did as well?

I haven't used dialup for anything other than travel over the last 6 years, and this could very well be outdated, but I've run into a few isp's over the years that were automatically resetting my dialup connection after I'd reached a certain amount of activity.

It may be worth a shot contacting your isp to ensure this isn't the case.
