Default 3 way AFC wild card tie - who gets in?

If Pittsburg, San Diego and Jacksonville all finish 11-5, who gets the wildcards? (Assuming Denver beats Oakland and still wins the West).

San Diego gets in by virtue of having the best conference record.

I mean, Pittsburgh gets left out by having the worst conference record...

Doesn't Pittsburgh get in over San Diego, because Pittsburgh beat them? Isn't the first tie-breaker head-to-head matchup?

From here

Since none of those 3 teams beat the other two (or lost to the other two) the next tiebreaker used is conference record. In the above scenario it would be SD (9-3) and Jax (8-4) getting in ahead of Pittsburgh (7-5.)

For three way ties (when no team has swept the other two teams), the team with the best conference record doesn't necessarily win the tiebreak. The tiebreak is used to eliminate the third team, and then a head to head tiebreak determines the winner between the two remaining teams. In this scenario, Pittsburgh would have the worst conference record of the two, so they're eliminated from the tiebreak. Then for the SD-Jax matchup, you do a standard head to head tiebreak. Since these two teams didn't play each other, you look to the conference record. And SD would have a better conference record under this scenario.

Also, it should be noted that if two of the three teams are in the same division, then they use a head to head tiebreaker between those two teams, and the winner of that tiebreaker goes through another tiebreaker against the third team.

Yes I'm a nerd.

So either way it is calculated, SD gets in because of conference record and Pittsburgh's win over them means nothing but their loss to Jacksonville means everything. Right?
