Default Harrahs St Louis Trip Report, Day 1

I've been debating how to go about actually making this post as I could be long winded and go into great detail or I could use a one-liner:

Last nite, I scored $212 over 3 hours at $3/6 table

Now I know this isn't normal by any stretch of the imagination and I'm nothing more than a well educated weekend warrior but if I can beat the game, even for that incongrouous amount, then I know the "professionals" here could CRUSH the game!

13 tables, 2 with $2/5 NL, couple of $3/6 and one $6/12 and another limit that I'm missing, but I didn't see anything over $6/12. I grabbed their tourney sheet and will list that later if anyone is interested.

As for players, mostly recreational and a few business people in town tossing their money away. Very poor card protection, lots of flashing. Most were seated with less than $100 in front of them.

I think the entire table did a double-take when I check-raised the 1st time

Saw a ton of weak aces, any suited Kx, Qx and Jx limping in as well and more than a few of things like 57s and the like.

I landed around 7pm or so and got the casino just before 8. A new table was opened up and I got into a game fairly quickly. I'd just decided to scope it out and get 500 in chips in expectation of playing tonite. But once I got seated, I DID NOT want to leave!

I had originally decided to leave at 10 then 10:30 and finally had to leave at 11, had to teach a class 1st thing this morning, but I'm telling ya, I woulda stayed ALL NITE if I could've! I'll be back again tonite, shortly!

I'm even considering extending my trip by a day and that's something I NEVER do....I've NEVER extended a trip during the last 10 years, always want to get back home, but if the game holds up, I'll be making plans to stay an extra day and play a ton of hours on Thursday

Thought someone might be interested

Tables surfaces were very hard and old felt. Chairs were comfortable. There is a snack bar right inside the room, kinda nice, restrooms are "148 paces that way."

Seemed to be VERY young people running the room, but appeared to operate smoothly.

Overall, not a bad room, although kinda smallish.

I was hoping this would help someone out, but if not, please let me know what I can detail, that'll help, thanks.

Guess I'm talking to myself and this is useless or y'all are just waiting to see how badly I did tonite

I did take notice of the dealers a little more tonite and there were far more slow, bad dealers than good. Lisa and Steve were the only 2 dealers worth a damn the time I was there, otherwise the dealing action was sad

As for action it was much more of the same tonite...I got more than my share of cards compared to last nite but Flops weren't as kind.

I got to the room right around 7pm and got seated almost right away, left just after 11.

2 hands put me down early when I played AJ and a flop of Jxx. Turn and River were blank and I led the betting heads-up, lost to pocket Kings, guy never re-raised pre-flop or post. The other loser was AT with a Ten on the Flop, lost to a straight.

Best hand I saw was pocket Kings that I raised pre-flop. Flop came down 5A5. I led out and was raised by a player who I had a great read on thankfully, I mucked the kings and 2 other players called. The original re-raiser called pre-flop with 85. This same player was catching some amazing hands and got to the point where he nearly played every hand dealt.

Overall I ended $18 down over the 4 hours.

So total for 7 hours over the past 2 days is now $194 bringing that hourly trip rate down just a tad.

The class I'm conducting tomorrow finishes mid-afternoon so I'll have a little more play time tomorrow.

Thanks for the report. I've been wondering how nice the poker rooms are in St. Louis.

BTW, as you're probably finding out, you can have spectacular winning nights at most 3/6 games, but overall the average win rate really isn't that spectacular. Since the pots are usually so huge, a couple good or bad rivers can make a huge difference during any given session.

Between the rake and tipping, most people good enough to crush 3/6 can beat a higher level for more.

Have to totally agree...last night was pretty rough with more and more people playing just for the bad beat jackpot, that and a couple of hands early brought me down, although I was pretty happy with coming back from almost $150 down to only $18 down for the night. And that included 2 misplayed hands that would've put me positive for the 2nd nite as well.

One of the reasons I didn't sit in on the $6/12 was due to the $500 limit every 2 hours and I thought sitting down with only $500 would be kinda constricting at that level.

Like I said, I'm not at the point where I'm grinding it out daily but I've been able to find success at these tables and if I can, then I know others can do exceedingly well

42 big bets in 2 hours of B&M play isn't that short of a bankroll. In addition, why don't you save chips from previous night's play and add to the $500?

You really only need about 25 small bets to sit at a limit table, just make sure you have another 25 in the wallet.

I did that actually and maybe it was partly due to a comfort level at the lower level. I did play 5/10 last week in Louisville and did fairly well.

And like I mentioned, I'm not earning a living at this like most here, just a weekend warriior for the most part at this time. I also cut my teeth on NL, mostly tourneys but I think that going from NL to Limit is much easier than the other way around.

Right now I still feel more comfortable at the lower limits, maybe due in part to a $4k bankroll but who knows, I plan on getting to the room much earlier tonite and may scope out the action on the 6/12
