Default Card counting books for beginners

Can anyone recommend some books and/or software that is a good launching point for someone who knows very little about counting in blackjack.

Professional Blackjack by Stanford Wong is a quick read, plus it has all the real numbers in it if you get serious.

Perhaps someone could recommend a better book about the basic mechanics, I learned the best techniques thru OTJ training.

I started out my gambling "career" as a card counter before I switched over to poker. Knock Out Blackjack by Vancura and Fuchs is probably the best book for a beginner. It is the system I used and is powerful considering its simplicity. A great software program to practice counting with is Casino Verite although it may be a little pricy if I remember correctly ~$100 (?). Also check out cardcounter.com for good forum discussions.

Million Dollar Blackjack by Kenny Uston seems to have faded into obscurity but I thought it was a great book.

I ordered Mason's Fundamentals of 21, but I haven't read it yet. It is very thin, so I'm thinking it might not have much.

Knock Out Blackjack is a good book for learning an easy but powerful count, but if you really want to go out and try it, you'll need more information. Blackbelt in Blackjack is a great book, and I also recommend Bootlegger's 200 Proof Blackjack. It goes more in depth on game selection, bankroll managment and other topics you need to understand before going to the casino.
