Those of you having problems with this, think Unarmed, Mosdef, and Apathy.

So, no one here is a fan of the CFL?

Any score that has the Broncos leading.

Cause with Plummer as our QB, how could we possibly ever have a lead?

1 bad game and you're writing them off?!!?! And you call yourself a Broncos fan? You must not remember the 80s too well.

FWIW, they are 0-7 at miami, super bowl aside.

4-4 is the correct answer.

5-5 might actually be stranger in practise as if the teams are capable of getting a safety each, it might be quite hard for them to get a field goal.

Under that logic, a safety and a TD would be even more difficult...therefore 9-9, which is 3 FGs...so nevermind.

I don't see the problem here...4-4 is by far the rarest score...and I dont think it has even ever occurred at the NFL level.

No, there's no way to get 1 point. I'd have to vote for 4-4. Also, there are 2 pt. conversions in the nfl.

well an induction proof will eliminate all but the lowest of scores (if u can score n, then n+3, n+6,n+7,n+8 are all possible with fg/td added on) from needing any safeties to achieve

u can't score 1

3/6/7/8/9/10 are all possible without a safety, thus anything 11+ is possible without a safety

so we have 2/4/5 left...only 4 requires 2 safeties

so 4-4

1-1 or 1-0 or 0-1 would be a strange score for football.

Don't they count a forfeit as a 1-0 victory?

I'm assuming pro (NFL) football -- no 2-point conversions -- and ruling out scores that would be strange just by virtue of being unreasonably large (I would find it strange to walk into a stadium and see that the score was 143-133, even if it was quite clear what combination of scores would add up to those numbers).

Safeties are by far the rarest scoring play, so anything that requires that both teams had at least one would be quite strange. 4-4 would require that both teams had exactly two, and I think would probably be the strangest possible, as a large number of field goals still isn't as rare as a single safety.

11-11 would probably be my second choice. (Several ways for this to happen, but all of them require something at least moderately strange.)

[/ QUOTE ]

welcome to the 20th century. Theyve had 2 point conversions in the NFL for a decade now.
