Default Taj for thieves and dirtbags???

I was playing at the Trop on friday night and as I sat down there was a conversation going on among some regulars at the table about what a hell hole the Taj is and everyone was basically ripping the poker room there. The general agreement among the regulars was that the Taj is basically a den of thieves and dirtbags who will roll you in the alley in a heartbeat.

I have played several times at the Taj and I actually like it there. Although it is not as plush as the Trop and you are perhaps more likely to be hassled by hard luck railbirds for a handout I never felt that I was going to get jumped while going to the bathroom or catching a cab.

I chalked it up to these guys simply talking out of their collective asses or being too easily intimidated by the yelling that occasionally erupts, but it made me curioius- has anyone had an experience like this at Taj???

I just went there for the first time and I love it. Compared to what I have seen before the room is huge. They have all kinds of games going at all limits even on a Tuesday night. If I was going on a poker trip I would go there over Vegas any day.

Seems pretty off to me based on me handful of visits there.
Besides valet is literally 20 feet from the poker room, if you can get rolled and robbed in 20 feet amidst 50 people...then both you and the Taj security system have major issues.

One issue I have heard confirmed by several different parties is that (like most every cash game) you do not want to leave money on the table if you get up and go somewhere (say bathroom, whatever) as the Taj is apparently notorious for "thieves" jacking your cash off the table. Take it off when you leave, and put it back on when you come back.

I know at least one old guy was pick pocketed on his way to the garage for a gew thousand about 3 years ago.
I also know about a year and a half ago a couple had someone come into their room at night and take a womans pocket book..... the door hadnt "clicked" when the closed it (of course this isnt poker room related)

The taj is imho scummier than the other rooms, not so scummy when you walk in, but gets scummier as you approach the high limit end of the room

One nite leaving there around 3 A.M. on the long walk from the poker room past the valet area to Pacific ave to catch a Jitney some drunk bum started harrasing me asking me for money. when I refused he started following me and cursing at me...I walked to the other side of the alley and turned around and went back into the casino for a bit b4 heasding out about a half hour later.

It was kind of scary becausde there was NO ONE around if this guy decided to attack me or something... I've walked through NYC and Paterson late at nite and not been as scared as I was by this experience

The key to AC. Valet Parking. If you don't have a car, take a cab from the front of the casino (its EIGHT DOLLARS MAX). Don't walk the streets at night by yourself. You won't get mugged this way.

I parked in the parking garage and found retrieving my car a bit creepy at 1 a.m.

i've left Foxwoods this late or later and never felt at risk in their parking garage.

AC is not a nice place.

I think that says a lot. In the rooms I've played at, this wouldn't be allowed. Hell, even in the dingy little private clubs I used to play at in toronto, I wouldn't think twice about leaving my chips on the table for a bathroom break.
What are you supposed to do, balance your rack on the urinal? I'd rather have my chips on the table in full view of the cameras...
