Default Question about HU plays

I recently started studying heads up plays. That includes watching high stake heads up plays as well as studying some math.
One thing I have realized is that these so-called HU specialists who are winning players go for gutshot straight, runner runner flush etc. Normally, runner runner or a pair draw with like a T high etc are normally considered as mathematically bad plays.
I understand that it depends on how other players play and situations. However, I see these runner runners alot by HU winning players.

What I am wondering is how can you really tell if the guy is really goood when watching HU plays.
What kind of qualities make him such a good player?

Advice of any articles or links for studying HU games?

Anyone who regularly draws to a runner-runner, cannot be a winner IMO. However, several weak draws plus some chance that you currently have the best hand can justify peeling a card on the flop, and it may appear to be a little fishy to an observer.

Its also important to remember that in a full game a gutshot is a gutshot. In heads-up, however, its a gutshot, a back door flush draw, and probably one or two pair outs as well. I think part of being an expert heads-up player is recognizing these situations.

You have to remember that a lot of the time your opponent will have no hand or a very weak hand, so a weak draw plus your draw to pair cards isnt too bad. Another thing to consider is that they may also be drawing to cards that they can bluff.

Another thing to remember is that the biggest suckers playing HU are not those who'll draw to runner runner, but rather those who'll fold to the slightest aggression.

You question implies a mindset that is totally incongrous with good HU play.
