I HATE making deals, but there are times when I would swallow my pride and give in. This is definitely one of them. No need to play a 5k heads up agaisnt on of the best online tournament players out there...

Psychologically I don't think you could have played your best after he offered you the deal.

It's unlikely that you would voluntarily play sheets HU for $5000. Probably not EV+, but could give you bragging rights.

At 15% of your bankroll its large enough to affect your performance unless you are very disciplined.

If you want to play in the event so badly and 5K isn't a huge hit for you, why not take the 5K, pony up 5K of your own, and buy in (or set it aside for next years WSOP if you prefer)?

How much is the seat worth? Is this on Stars? You know, you can buy in directly to these things with W$. If it's a $11000 seat, you can buy the other half of the seat through a W$ marketplace (probably for another $5.5k out of pocket) and then just buyin directly.

Comeon guys... as poker players you're supposed to be stubborn. You're supposed to think your best is enough to beat the best. I never take the deal. In my one big heads up match vs. PFabe(Ranked by Pocketfives.com) I was offered a deal when he had a very slight chiplead, and I turned him down. Ended up playing a 45 minute battle for first place and a 15.5k difference. The extra money was great, but I was even more excited for taking down first place. We're poker players, we're supposed to be over-confident, so act like it.

Hmm...."we are supposed to be overconfident""...That reminds me of parlance in my industry when companies say "We are confident that we will beat our expectations".

Perhaps I am not overconfident and stubborn enough for the twoplustwo intelligentsia.
