Thanks I appreciated all of what you all had to say...I'm still not sure. But I will know real soon; that money is burning a pretty big hole in my pocket! I planned to buy customized chips, but I think I might order the Paulson's James Bond's because custom chips seem to take a long time to make.

Just wanted to let you know that I decided to get some james bond chips because I didn't want to wait for customs. Well I ended up regreting it and ordered custom ASM's anyways. If I could do it again I would have kept my crappy dice chips and waited.

It was months ago, but I remember a poster here made a table that looked very, very nice. Not the kind of thing that you only whip out for games, and something that you could actually design a room around or at least add to the room. I remember the price they made it with being pretty reasonable too.

As far as chips go, search back in this forum a ways, a bunch of different people have gotten some great looking custom chips.

You can build a very nice table for $200-300 bucks.

Buy a set of 500 custom color, no label ASM clay chips: I think they run less than 60 cents apiece, so call it $350. These are very nice, high-quality clay chips.

Put the rest in your bankroll.

Buy customized clay from pokerchips.com, they are worth the wait, but wait you will. Also as long as you have "free" money buy a nice table (or folding table if no room) from ebay.

It will make your game a lot more fun, and will have a nice feel to everything. Kind of like a leather basketball vs a rubber one. The game isnt much different with either, but a good ball makes the game a whole lot better

Feeling a little guilty...

Don't. You got a gift from someone who cares a great deal about you. To not enjoy it and spend it on what you'd want to spend it on, the table and chips, would be disrespectful to your friend imho.

$500 on a set of Paulson's

I sure do wish some clay chip manufacturer, any clay chip manufacturer, would sell chips that are completely flat. No edge molding, no center indentations, no nothing. Just a puck with edge spots and graphics on the faces.

I ended up buying some Nevada Jack's. These are composite, but that's their only failing. The graphics are gorgeous. The Web site doesn't show it, but the edges have a marble look; a stack of these chips looks like a small stone marble cylinder. A very nice effect. They have good weight (could be heavier, but they're definitely not bad). The faces are textured, but at least completely flat from center to edge. They sound almost right, close enough for horseshoes, but anyone who knows casino chips can tell the difference. They're a good compromose between value and cost, at about $0.50 per.

I'll bet she'd really like it if you used it to buy into a good-sized tournament or two, rather than using it to buy "things".

am i the only one who is having a hard time trying to think of a woman i am not in a relationship with or related to that would drop me a grand?

also, you may want to consider going over the limit, if you can afford it. i dont know prices well, but if you got a nice, real table, and a large set of customs, you could think of it as a 1000 dollar rebate.

this is your best chance to never feel like you need better stuff. IMO, a $200 folding table would leave you with that haunting feeling.

this is a rare opportunity, man. make the best of it, and let us know what you choose
