Default Hellmuth > Caught Cheating At WPO?

Played with a buddy last night who plays 4-5 nights a week in Tunica. He apparently was told (by a pokerroom manager) that hellmuth was caught cheating (chip cupping) in the $1000 rebuy event down at the Binion's event in Tunica this past month. The word is he's banned for life from the GoldStrike now...

Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Oh, your buddy's pokerroom manager buddy...I'm sure this 4th hand (minimum) source is credible. I would assume it's true and go from there...

I hate to keep this thread going, but what is 'chip cupping'?

You really think Hellmuth would risk his 7 figure endorsement deals, income, etc. by cupping a few little chips???

Hey, my cousin's best friend's sister's boyfriend, who is a janitor at GoldStrike, saw that too!

It must be true!

I assume it's taking chips from a smaller buy in tourney off the table in hopes of putting them back in your stack in a larger buy in tourney.

This happens all the time in CA. Think about it. You can play in a $40 buy in tourney and get to the final table with a bunch of t1000 chips. Palming a couple of them wouldn't really affect your chip position in this tourney, and would be worth $100 if you used them in lieu of a rebuy in a $100 rebuy tourney.
It's a big problem in a lot of these weekly tourneys.

Ah. Gotcha. Probably difficult at a real casino, but I could see where this could be done very easily at my local card room. I actually have the exact same cards at home that my local room uses (a standard KEM design). I've often thought about how easy it would be for me to carry an extra ace with me when I go. I wouldn't do it of course, but I think it could be easily done.

Surely if Phil cheated in some way, it was no doubt the greatest tactic in poker history.

You know I think that everything you write is funnier than it really is just because you have that picture of Peter next to it.

I just thought of a nicer way to say that:

I laugh twice as hard at your jokes just because that picture of Peter is always next to your posts.

Regards,

- Jason
