Giles and Peavy means the Padres will at least be decent - I am excited.

The Padres got lucky to sign im up for that, apparently Toronto was offering 5 years, 55 million... Obv. it's only 5 million difference, but the 2 years more is a great bonus imo, isnt this guy getting old also?

He's 34. JP Ricciardi, GM of the Blue Jays, point blank said the Jays didn't offer the 5 years, but the indications are that he took less money than Toronto offered to stay in SD.

I dont understand why Brian Cashman wasnt involved with Giles, the Yankees need a centerfielder and they're full of cash... Obv. Giles wants to stay on the west coast, so what, offer him 15m a year, it's not like the yankees care about the money anyways.

The Yanks felt that Giles was using them for leverage and that he wasn't serious about signing with them. Also, there were personality questions, with Giles a very laid back, loosey-goosey type while the Yankee lockerroom is generally stoic.

Cool, thanks for the info. I didnt know what type of guy Giles was and I knew the 5 years deal Toronto was offering was a rumor as well, but you never know.
