Jinx.

And he is (was?) the Majority Leader, not the Speaker...

Heading off what will surely become the Republican talking point:

http://mediamatters.org/items/200411180003

[ QUOTE ]
While Earle is an elected Democrat, as Media Matters for America has previously noted, a June 17 editorial in the Houston Chronicle commended his work: "During his long tenure, Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle has prosecuted many more Democratic officials than Republicans. The record does not support allegations that Earle is prone to partisan witch hunts." This assertion supports Earle's own claim about his record; a March 6 article in the El Paso Times reported: "Earle says local prosecution is fundamental and points out that 11 of the 15 politicians he has prosecuted over the years were Democrats."

[/ QUOTE ]
Ten bucks says this is going to be painted as a partisan witch hunt about ten million [censored] times by every Republican you see on television over the next 10 years.

I can sense Bill O'Reilly wagging his finger already.

It won't take ten years for the "Ronnie Earle is staging a poltical witchhunt/Tom DeLay is a victim" and "Democrats using the courts to do what they couldn't do at the ballot box" become part of the political lexicon. I give it until the weekend.

Springboard the "Democrats using the courts to do what they couldn't do at the ballot box, stop politicizing the justice system" into Bush nominating a new SCOTUS justice and I think I've laid out most of the right-wing talking points for the next week and half.

Toss in the "haven't you heard about how Chuck Schumer stole credit card reports?" and "Nancy Pelosi has ties to the same lobbyists DeLay does!" and I think I've covered all the bases.

Also, "Blanco/Nagin's fault"

I don't have access to a TV at the moment, but goodness knows, I'm sure it has already begun.

No good noise machine has an off button.
