Re: Am I a dick for buying in deep
Most games have a minimum and maximum buy in, if this game doesn't, by all means buy in for $40-$50. Unless of course it will do damage to your conscience.

Re: Am I a dick for buying in deep
My friend told me about a similar situation. He bought in for 20 but other people were buying 40 or 50. It didn't really seem fair to him because the different stacks threw off the game.
I've never heard of min/max buyins for NL. I've only heard of a set amount with rebuy up to that amount. For example, you should set the game at 20NL so buy in is at $20 and if under, option to rebuy up to $20 or if over, then that's it. Why is $20 short buy in for that structure? You're buying in for 40bb. At the casino $100NL tables, blinds are 2/4, which is 25bb. If you're concerned the blinds are too large for that amount, I suggest lowering it to .10/.20 (100bb), or .20/.40 (50bb), but I think .25/.50 (40bb) is just right for $20, assuming they'll rebuy if they get busted. One problem I usually have is someone going all in, busting out, and not wanting rebuy another $20, so you have one less player. So we usually play 5NL .05/.10, and people are willing to put up $5 at a time up to their $20 that they were planning to play anyways. This keeps the game going longer and makes it more fun. |

Re: Am I a dick for buying in deep
I would buy in for about 10k if I played with you and your friends. I would go all in every time, and eventually I'd have all the money if no one quit.
