You just need to shop smarter. I have a 30" LCD HDTV, it cost me $800 and it rules.

Which one did you get?

I have to reluctantly disagree that any surge protector is better than none. A surge is either stopped or isn't. I've had quite a few different surge protectors and none of them worked till I spent some more serious money. Now I got a decent one and it already paid for itself many times over. Mine was like $250 on sale, so it cost a bit more, and is also a battery back-up unit.

Seriously, I wouldn't dream of buying expensive stuff like you guys are doing without a surge protector/battery back-up combo. Most cities, even the most expensive ones, have lots of brown-outs, which are also very damaging to equipment, and a generally uneven power supply. And even weird power events a couple states away sometimes spark power fluctuations, as do storms, etc.

It's just too much money to risk unnecessarily when a QUALITY surge protector/battery back-up can protect your investment.

a Refurb Philips at outlet.philips.com.

FWIW, I think I kinda lucked out b/c from reading testimonials on the fatwallet forums, it seems a buch of people had issues receiving all the parts.

Mine though is good as new.

It is kind of an entry level HDTV I think, so if you want crystal clear picture on non HD channels, I would look to spend more and look at some other models, but I'm really happy.
