Biloxi

I assume when you mean the desk, you're talking about the desk in the poker room itself, and not a cashier cage, correct?

I also assume that this desk is where to sign up for whatever table I wish to play...right?

You obviously play there quite a bit...you play the 1-4-4-8 game?

If you see a guy with a beige FOX5 News hat on...that would be me!! Stop by and say hello. I owe you a beer for the useful info.

As soon as you walk in there is a desk/booth right next to the entrance. A guy with a microphone will be standing up there(sometimes a lady). He can help you with whatever you need. Just look at the board on the wall to the right of entrance to see what is being played... Tell him what limit you want and he'll take your name if its full or point you to the table and give you table number...
He'll sometimes announce "player coming in on 14.." and the dealer will wave you in to the right table. You can go sit down and ask dealer for cheques, or just walk to desk in far right corner of room and hand them your cash. Its all real easy going. You can stand and watch a game or go sit down while you wait for your name to be called.

I play the 4/8Hold em and Stud when its available. Not as much as Id like because Im often at school and just starting new job at another casino

good luck!

$400 at the 4/8 table is about double the average stack, and thats alot of chips unless you just plan on using nickels. A "Stack and a rack" should be plenty to start with.($100 in white, $100 in red)I would get the rest in Quarters. You just keep cash on the table like many players do under their stacks.
Or get it all in white and have a massive fortress of 400 chips

I will be working half mile down the beach at the Isle.

The Biloxi Grand is tons better than the one in Gulfport, if for no other reason than the room is lots bigger.

Unless they've changed recently, the food comp policy at the Biloxi Grand is the best I've ever seen. Be sure to get a players card as you enter the casino, because you need that to get comped. Again, unless they've changed lately, they don't rate you, and if you're in the poker room and have a card, you can eat three squares for free every day. They have a seafood buffet every evening that's unbelievable, with among other things, huge wonderful boiled shrimp that you can eat until you founder, if you wish.

The 1-4-8-8 games are very soft usually, but there can be variation from table to table. Most days they only spread 1-4-8-8 and 10-20, so the best players in the room are at 10-20, and some of them are very good players. You may find yourself at a table of players waiting for 10-20, especially on Sat. night.

All in all, a really fun place. I no longer live near there, but I have wonderful memories of it. That's where I learned to play. Have fun! Wish I could be there!

BTW, just buy in for "A rack of white" at first and see how it goes. If you bought $400, everybody in the joint would be keying on you.

Evan beat me to it...Whaddya do at the Isle Biloxi?

If your on the floor, I will definitely stop by and say hello...hopefully after a decent day donking around the Grand.

A rack of "white" you say? What's that, $100? $200? I certainly dont want folks keying on me....

And I appreciate the advice about getting a card and the meal comps...cant believe they dont rate you...that's a sweet deal!!!!

Any other suggestions out there? All have been very helpful so far.

Thanks

A rack of white is $100. That's what most players there buy in for, and if you need more later it's real easy to get more. About the "keying in," it's nothing you need to worry about; maybe it's just a matter of my style, but I like to slip in unobtrusively, and not be calling attention to myself. That's all. I have never seen anybody buy into 1-4-8-8 for $400 but I've seen plenty, including myself, walk away with that and more.

One thing about 1-4-8-8 is the bets are not in fixed amounts, and the blinds are $1 and $2. So you can relax your starter requiremeents a little and fold when you don't like the flop, generally at a cost of only "a half bet."

There are a lot of really nice people who work in that room or play there, and a few really good players too, plus many, many donks. If you run into a big fat guy named "Doc Harvey" and you happen to think of it, tell him Bill from 'Vegas said Hi. He's funnier than hell.

For what you get, the rooms in Biloxi can be a little pricey. I always used to stay out at the Howard Johnson's near the interstate, for a lot less $$, like in the range of $40 per night.

Have fun there and let us hear how it went when you get back.

Always run lucky...

BillC

Im actually staying at a Ramada Inn right there on the main drag(Hwy 90?)....seems to be around halfway between Biloxi and Gulfport, maybe a little more towards the Biloxi end.

This will only be my second trip inside a B&M poker room...and the other time was quite a few years ago, when I went with a buddy and watched, but didnt play!!

How's the rake there?

And say I play for around 3-4 hours the first time around(I'm going on Monday and leaving on Friday) do I get a comp for all three meals???

And the blinds are only $1/$2??? Figured $2/$4...that sorta changes things, might hafta play a few more hands

Forgive all the questions...just dont wanna seem like such a newbie in the place...

Thanks

I played my first hand in the Grand about 5 yrs ago, and I was so nervous I was shaking like a leaf. If that's you too, don't worry about it. It'll pass, and you'll have a wonderful time.

Re comps: no need to play ANY hours. They don't log your play (I haven't been there for a year, and things CAN change, but I doubt that did.) You don't even check in your card. When you go to the comp desk in the poker room, they enter your card in the computer and your file comes up. They print a computer-generated "pass" for your comp. The only proviso is you can't get one more often than every 6 hours. Generally cool to slip a buck to the woman that handles it; I remember a very sweet older woman named Alice.
After you get the "pass" you have to have one of the bosses in the room sign it. Have some of those big shrimp for me!!

The rake is a max of $4, with $1 of it going to the "Jackpot." If the jackpot is way up, the place really jumps as people buy into that dream.

I don't mind the questions; they bring back cherished memories. I don't always read the B&M forum, so if you have any other questions you can PM me. Don't hesitate.

And just relax yourself. The place is comfortable and most questions will answer themselves. Don't take it so seriously that you fail to have a good time!

Always run lucky...
