Default Hand critique please

Pre-flop raise UTG ok? Smoothcall this flop? This was my first orbit, but I've yet to see a .5/1 Party table I didn't like (yet).

Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is UTG with 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
<font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, MP2 calls, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, CO calls, Button calls, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>.

Flop: (9.50 SB) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(4 players)</font>
Hero checks, MP2 checks, <font color="#CC3333">CO bets</font>, Button calls, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, MP2 folds, <font color="#CC3333">CO 3-bets</font>, Button folds, <font color="#CC3333">Hero caps</font>, CO calls.

Turn: (9.25 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">CO raises</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero 3-bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">CO caps</font>, Hero calls.

River: (17.25 BB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>, CO calls.

Final Pot: 19.25 BB

I'd play it the same. I seriously doubt CO has QQ (due to preflop play) or J9 (would be strange to 3-bet with a gutshot vs. a preflop raiser).

I personally don't raise w/ 88 UTG in full ring games, but I know some people do.

The rest is fine.

I think you should lead that flop and bet.

I think that the PF raise was a bit strong from UTG. I would prefer to raise pocket pairs 99 and higher from EP pre-flop.

I also think that you should have bet out on the flop.

With no reads on the table and no 3-bet PF, you risked the flop being checked round when you did not lead out with a bet.

That could have allowed someone with a drawing hand, like a gut-shot to see a free turn card, which then might beat you.

I think you played the rest of the hand fine. I expect that CO overplayed either a weaker set or 2 pair.

Frankly whenever I see a preflop raiser get all passive on the flop, 90% of the time it's because he flopped a monster. No one's going to think you flopped a set if you lead out, so just do it.

I thought a check might give the impression of an AK type of hand, so I was looking to go for a check-raise. You give good advice though... makes more sense to bet out the flop with no reads on anyone at the table.

For those who are interested, Villain called with Q3o, and MHIG.

you have to lead this flop...checking then waking up screams monster. I'd lead flop and call if raised. Then i'd c/r the turn and go from there
