Gotta fold there (on the turn). On the flop, I'm not sure about the call either. Better limit players could answer. I also prefer jacking it up preflop.

I thought about raising preflop, but then I thought I could get away from the hand if the flop came out crappy. I was going to limp 3 bet if anyone raised, to just get max value for my hand...

On the flop I called because I dint think I had enough chips to make UTG fold whatever he he was willing to bet the flop with, so I thought I had to make my hand and since I have the nut flush draw and a great backdoor low draw w/ A24, I wanted bigstack or BB to call the flop...

that was my thinking, but I am still learning the game

Check folding the turn is absolutely minty fine here. You may very well be stone cold dead, and there isn't a hand in poker you're beating with no pair A8 kicker for high anyway. Even a bluffer is beating you.

1700 is plenty, any random 4 low cards will have more chance of winning the next hand than your hand here now. With blinds of 400/800 you do need to double through twice, but this is only going to bust you calling off here.

well the obv reason for my post, is big stack had just a ten, utg called with smaller clubs and got there, 10k pot, woulda been mine if I just gave up and called, or somehow got my chips in the pot

I ended up busting a few hands later, and on walk back to my room, I was thinking about this monster pot and wasnt sure if I actually did play it wrong...

I'd have raised preflop.
Once you're there i call the flop
Once you're there i'm all-in on the turn. With 1.5xbb left there is almost no hand its correct to fold in a tourney there, although this one is close.

normally in a $500 tourney, i wouldn't raise with that hand after an utg limper since your hand lacks high card strength. However it this situation given your chip count, an excellent low hand and that you will be putting up $1200 in blinds in a couple of hands, you have to raise preflop and go with this hand.
Since you didn't i would call the flop and fold the turn.
