He only needs to fold 1/5th of the time.

IMHO, I don't think he has no flush and folds trips 1/5th of the time.

I like it a lot. Wish I had the balls for this sort of thing. (and the poker mind to work it all out fast enough)

My river raise has to work 1/4 of the time to break even 8bb:2bb

This doesn't mean raising is better than calling though.

I also think your estimations are way off and your math is shoddy. Remember that you should be comparing whether the EV or raising is > EV of calling, not just if raising is +EV.

I think crunchy's original response is still the most important part of this hand.

Seems to me to be a clear call down situation after the turn checkraise. If he's bluffing, you can pick him off without investing more than you have to, just in case he isn't actually bluffing. What are the odds that the average player is representing a certain hand instead of actually having it? I'm not sure how you knew that he didn't have a Q or a heart by the river, or a monster like pocket deuces and was slowplaying until the turn. If you just had a feeling you had the best hand, thats another story of course, as I've felt that way a lot of times, and usually my "read" is about 50 / 50 without any other evidence but a gut feeling.

yeah, I meant to say 1/5th of the time. I actually corrected myself before you did. You think I should call here? I think on the turn he either has a heart+a pair or a queen, so when the heart comes off I think I'm beaten more than 8/9 times. I don't like calling at all.

Frankly, I'm waiting for villain to post his end of the HH, and for you to respond "I like a bet/fold like with your trip queens." Maybe thats already happening right now on the ITH forums?

If for humor's sake - fine. But you really shouldn't be concerned with whether or not this play worked this one time. You should be concerned with whether or not this play has a long-term +EV.

Of course. Otherwise the title of the thread would have been "Bluff raising sucks".
