Yeah, the sad thing is they still have to fight.

Tell them they are fighting a lost battle, I'm sure that would have a positive effect.

What I'm trying to say is, when someone has a job to do, you don't tell them there's no point in doing it. It only makes them perform worse, and that could cost lives and more time, in combat.
