small bankroll trip strategy
I'm heading to shreveport to play the 4/8 tables for one day (a friends birthday is the occasion), but I've only got $400 to play with on this trip.
Any specific strategies for this situation? I'm not trying to make my living at this one casino on this one day - I'm just looking to go try to play some good poker against some suspect opponents for as long as my short bankroll will sustain me. I'd also like to not lose everything in the first 2 hours. I fully accept that I could bust out in the first two hours even with good 2+2 play due to the variance in poker, but my primary goal this day may be to reduce my variance even at a slight cost to my overall EV. -- First reply: Tighten up pre-flop - yeah, I get that. I'm looking more for in the blinds and post flop general recommendations here. Any thoughts? |

$400 for one session at 4/8? Play your game and don't worry about it.

Re: small bankroll trip strategy
$400 is a ton of money to play $4/8 with for a day.

Re: small bankroll trip strategy
yeah, I'm figuring that out (playing with $400 in play money at a fake online 5/10 table now) I'll just play my game and see how I do.

Re: small bankroll trip strategy
unless they drop the rake $1 at a time (lets say for every $10) instead of all $3 or $4 at once, i would chop the blinds. stealing becomes quite unprofitable when you raise and win $2 or whatever.

Re: small bankroll trip strategy
If you lose $400 in a day playing 4/8 in a casino getting in 35 hands an hour I don't think having a bigger bank roll would have helped the matter. If you're on an aweful run, dropping 50bb's in a session is a good time to stop anyways. I've only played limit at a B&M once (my last time at foxwoods, 5-5NL was 1/3 my buddies I didn't wanna play with, 1-2NL was horrid and I didn't feel like playing stud, so I sat at 4-8 with $200 and did well, made $120 or so in an hour or 2.
So basically I'm far from an expert but I've played enough online to understand variance, if you win overall online you should be fine against the poor excuses for poker players you'll be sitting across from playing 4/8 IRL with a 50bb immediate bankroll... |

I would chop the blinds anyway at 4-8

Re: small bankroll trip strategy
Your bankroll is fine - your destination sucks. Unless you are going after the 22nd when the Horseshoe reopens their poker room in Shreve., expect to wait about 3 hours to play at Hollywood (the only game in town) - and then expect to hate the way the games are run. Other than that, you should be fine.

Re: small bankroll trip strategy
I'm heading there to celebrate a friend's birthday with him. He'll be working during the day on Sat, so I plan on getting to the tables early (I'll leave Dallas on Fri) to avoid a wait.
service was fine last time I went. |
