Derrick Brooks
The thread about Ray Lewis made me remember one of my favorite arguments circa 2001.
I always felt that Derrick Brooks was a better player than Ray Lewis. Sure, his entrance dance (or lack there of) wasn't of RayRay's quality. And his trash talking left a lot to be desired. The only 'skill' that Lewis hands-down beats Brooks in, IMO, is hitting. He hits harder than Brooks, no doubt. Brooks was always overshadowed on his team by outspoken players like Sapp and Lynch. Oh yeah, Lewis leads in leadership, too. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that. I'll still take Brooks. Josh |

entrance dance ... RayRay's quality [/ QUOTE ] I would definately not call it "quality". It looks like he has an unmentionable object suck up his unmentionable place. I would still take Brooks as well |

Re: Derrick Brooks
defensive players are alot harder to annalyze than offensive player. i do know that ray lewis is the best self promoter in the league though. not that would take away from his skill.

Re: Derrick Brooks
Derrick Brooks is good but I think an argument can be made that the TB scheme made him better.

Re: Derrick Brooks
Agreed. Without Derrick Brooks, any of the past Buccaneers success since he got there would be jeopardized. Ceartinly from a Bucs' fan standpoint, with all due respect to Lee Roy Selmon, Brooks might very well go down as the best Buccaneer, and one of the better Linebackers of this era.

Re: Derrick Brooks
They were both great players in their primes (arguably Lewis is still there). But I think a middle linebacker can have a greater impact on a game than a weak-side linebacker in a 4-3. Whether it was talent or scheme, Lewis made more plays and, while coaches certainly seemed to respect Brooks greatly, I never heard them talking about him changing their entire gameplan like they did with Lewis.
