Is RB worth it for a small stakes player?

Sorry total noob when it comes to this, but I was wondering if it's worth it for me. I play maybe 15-20 hrs a week. Mostly .50/1 or 1-2 limit, some NL and small buy-in tournies. This is a hobby, but free $$ is free $$. Should I stick to bonus whoring or is setting up rakeback at a site, a good option for me? Any ideas as to the best site for a player like me?

Hmmm.... If I sign up with rakeback, then I get X% of my rake paid back to me. If I sign up without rakeback, then I get 0% of my rake paid back to me. Unless X < 0, or you hate money, getting rakeback is the better option. Obviously.

Well if bonuses are deducted...ah whatever I must be missing something. I didn't realize it was so cut and dry. Like I said i'm a noob at this. Obviously I will get on it then.

Bonuses are deducted from your MGR, meaning that you won't get any rakeback until you have generated exactly as much rake as you have received in bonus. After that you start getting rakeback. So, that means that the bonus is effectively 100% rakeback and once it is paid you go down to receiving 25% rakeback.

The deduction of bonuses is so the poker site is never actually paying an effective 125% of your rake back to you. But as the poster above pointed out, it is effectively a can't-lose proposition.

if you're already a player at a site, can i just create a "new" account and sign up for rakeback? will they notice?

Thanx that was help-ful. I get you're point, it's a no lose situation even if I don't generate much. I already have party/full-tilt/empire accounts. Is absolute a good choice?

Yes Absolute is a great choice, they dont even deduct your bonuses from your rakeback.

Yes they will notice so no you can't just create a new account by signing up through an affiliate.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you are just hitting bonuses your MGR can be negative especially with all the large competitive bonus offers out there. This would mean an affiliate and the casino would take a loss on you. Empire has been known to shut player's accounts down because of this and you are likely to piss off whatever affiliate ends up providing you this charity service unless you work out something with them before you sign up. This is presuming you just hit bonuses and run, in which case I don't think rakeback is the best option. However, you don't want to be stuck on an account without rakeback in the event you did start playing a lot after you hit your bonuses.

I would never advise a player to sign up without rakeback ever. A player with a good rakeback deal from a reliable affiliate will always be better off than the same player without rakeback. Todays $.50/1.00 bonus whore with a negative monthly mgr could be multitabling 5/10 or higher in six months to a year. If I was that player I would hate to be without a rakeback deal. It's never a bad idea to sign up for rakeback. From a player's perspective it can only be +EV.
