Someone mentioned the Rio in a post earlier...compared to Mirage, Bellagio, MGM, and soon to be Wynn(assuming its a good room), the Rio sucks!

[/ QUOTE ]

I've been assuming the Rio will make some moves when the WSOP is held there in June.

Sounds great, I will have to check it out when I come into town next month. Do you know if they offer poker rates on their rooms?

B.S. Many people don't know the Harrah's corporation too well... Their dealers go months and months without even getting uniforms. I remember when Harrah's opened up their room, the dealers were sitting on regular chairs and had to wear their own white shirts to work. No uniforms...took them several months to get. (Very tacky!) Same thing with the Rio(owned by Harrahs for those that don't know...) Their dealers are also out of uniform right now. My prediction is that the WSOP will be put in some big convention center at the Rio, played out, and the hotel will be no better for it. I'm even interested to see how they screw the whole thing up...

Mason has written a few times about how the big cardrooms of the 1980's lost all their business when the Mirage (and later Bellagio) opened up and offered much better service. We may be seeing that again.

Hmm, if they offer to give my rake back to me, I might have to start playing B&M again.

Hey DIce! Was nice meeting up with you the other night. I agree with you on the room. Most dealers are a bit green, but I can tell that they were trained properly. Seemed that quite a few didn't know that someone could wait till the big blind instead of posting. One dealer told my friend that he had to post even if he didn't want a hand...lol.

The room is sweet though! I love the modern hip look and feel to the room. I got to chat with some of the floors and the room manager and they seemed to know their stuff. The only complaint I have is that cash doesn't play (100's) on the NL games even though that the sign with the room rules clearly states that "Cash Plays". Mike, I think it was, said they were going to have to have that changed. Waitress service was top notch even though they weren't the most attractive and they dont serve Hpnotic in any bar except one in the casino! lol

The electronic tracking system is awesome. They even "pause" your time while you are gone. Makes sense, you are being comped for the time you play, not the time you're away. Some will not like that, but those are the same local type players that do that at places like the Orleans and Stations. They leave, come back 5 hours later and clock out for the free comps. The same tracking system will also tell management where seats are open as long as the dealers remember to punch the buttons.

Seemed that the dealers got the short end of the stick being that every table just about, was a break table. It will take a few days to figure out exactly how many people to schedule on which days. (hint 5 dealers for every 4 tables that you want open) hehe

Ok on a 1-10 scale...I give the room an 7.5 with the potential to reach the top.

Games running: 2/4, 4/8, 6/12, 10/20, 20/40 (later at night), 1/2 NL, 2-5NL, 2-10 Stud, 5/10 O8 full kill.

$100 at the $1/2.
$500 at the $2/5.

Pretty standard for those limits.

Wow that comp covers about 1/2 the tipping in NLH....

I always loved the feel of the MGM grand but was dissapointed in its not having a Poker room, it sounds like they have exceeded the Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Excalibur properties in bringing a large and professional room to that side of the strip....I expect they will do very well at the lower and middle limits.

stands for complimentary...

Like a free meal...credit to be used in the casino...reduced priced lodging at the casino...

Unfortunately poker players do not receive the greatest "comps" among gambler since we do not engage in games like BJ or Keno in which the casino wins gobs of money.
