Whats your story?
Played a lot as a kid and after graduation (20 years ago) - regular dealer call home games and such. Found out that some guys at work had a regular game and asked in, which got me back into it. Lots of guts games and I didn't like those so I began to find other games that played more traditional, and then started hosting my own where it was strictly holdem and omaha8. After about 9 months, took a business trip to Vegas and won in my first couple nights at a casino game (I was such a novice in retrospect). Few months later ended up back at Bellagio - but had purchased a poker book for the flight down, and of course it was HPFAP - I considered myself advanced at the time. At least it led me to the site which then got me playing both better and online.

Your journey through the stakes (0.05/.10 > .25/.50 > .5/1? etc).
I started at .50/1 - but was fascinated with the SNG tourneys. So I did not play much ring game and played about 100 SNGs with moderate success. I realized that each time I was about to bust out I would go make money at the limit tables and eventually made the leap that it was the better game for me and stuck with it. I stayed at each level for a long time - but only got PT at the end of my .50/1 days so don't know how many hands I played. But I played over 50k hands at 2/4 before moving up to 3/6 - and I've got another 25k at that level.

Why do you play? Family opinions?
I play for the competition. It's an added benefit that keeping score happens to line my pockets a bit. My wife absolutely hates the game. She considers it a degenerate hobby - but is slightly tolerant based on my 2 years of arguments. Plus I never play until after the family is asleep - so I don't sacrifice family time. Rest of family finds it interesting.

Aims?
For me it is only an interesting game that I enjoy playing. I've been playing for 1.5 years and withdrawn roughly 8k - so you couldn't even consider it a second job. I play when I have time - some months logging 7k hands and other months logging 1k hands.

Please tell me you're at least doing well now. You have such a good understanding of this game I really don't see how you can be 'breaking even' over so many hands.

Started playing $10 NL games with my friends last winter and just kinda messed around.

Bought in to PokerRoom last summer and just played the $25 NL games for a while. Made small profit for a while. I then bought SSHE and started my limit trek in December, 2004.

I've played 30k hands of 1/2 since then at around 2.5 BB's and 7k hands of 2/4. I'm currently running extremely well at 2/4. I have been posting on 2+2 since the start.

This is really just the start of my poker career and hopefully I have good things to come in the future. I plan to stick at 2/4 for a while (50k hands or more).

Started playing poker on the back porch of my buddy's house back in middle school - nickle/dime games like guts, follow the queen, and anything we could think of (no hold'em yet).

We played a good bit just trading our change jars to each other. It was something to do in our little no-stop-light town between bottles of boone's farm and cases of Bud ponies. I continued to play silly games like that through most of high school, undergrad, and two years of a quasi-career.

Then, first year of law school, I saw the WSOP on ESPN and saw these UltimateBet.com logos everywhere. So I thought I'd give it a try. I was really up and down for a while, reading and learning along the way, and eventually turned $100 into $1000.

New found confidence and a new found obsession of poker, I spent an entire summer break reading about poker and playing online. I played pretty break even for a long time and was pleased knowing that it was no where but up from there. Started winning at NL, and started reading about limit, so I thought I'd try it. Well... there went my online bankroll. Redeposit and back to NL, but I promise to return once I'm earning a wage and can afford to learn.

So now that I graduated, all that time invested has paid off. I returned to the no-stop-light town to find hold em games avaliable every night of the week. And I assure you, the games here are <font color="red">softer than on PP!!</font> So I'm fortunate enough to have found a nirvana for card players. I'm able to support myself while I study for the bar exam (micro-budget) by playing poker at the local club on Friday nights - 10-20 person tournaments ($25 buyin) full of drunk calling stations. Whats your story?
Got into university in a business program, starting making a bunch of money at online poker, dropped out halfway through second year.

How did you discover poker?
People in my high school started playing it in the cafeteria. I like money, so I decided I should learn how to play.

When/Where did you first start playing?
The cafeteria games

What stakes?
Like .25/.50 limit or $20ish buy in no limit, sometimes we had somewhat big games like 1/2 nl, but rarely.

Got $10 free at Gaming Club in July 04, started playing $2 sit n gos, graduated up to beating $10 sit n gos, then moved money to pokerstars and started beating $20 sit n gos. Then I decided I should learn to play limit so I could play at casinos, so I started playing 1/2 6-max and failed horribly. I bought the 2+2 books in August 04, discovered these forums, started winning a lot, then moved up limit by limit. Now I play mainly 10/20 6-max but I've also been doing well playing 2/4 NL 6-max for the past couple months. I've also won some big prizes in NL multis and I do well playing $50 and $100 buy in turbo SNGs often.

Why do you play? Family opinions?
It's my job now. My family is getting used to it now that I'm making a good amount. They've accepted it, but they expect me to go back to school...
