UTG+1 had A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], CO had 77.

Another AK hand I played today. This is better?

I have A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] in the BB. 4 handed $5-$10.
UTG raises, button folds, SB 3bets, I cap, UTG calls.

Flop:2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
SB bets, I raise, UTG 3bets, SB folds, I cap, UTG calls.

Turn: 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
I bet, UTG calls.

River: A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
I bet, UTG raises, I 3bet, UTG caps.

There are situations where it is correct to fold AK preflop. But you are the BB and folding for two more bets is ridiculous.

Besides, the raisers are in the hijack and cutoff seats and do not need great hands.

The extra matching money provided by the button coldcaller is an incentive to cap. You only need to win 25% of the time for this to be a +EV action. Also the extra player and extra money in the pot make this closer to showdown poker. Deception matters less when the pot is huge and there are many opponents.

Another consideration is that if UTG+1 has a premium hand like AA or KK you cannot save any money by just calling because he will cap anyway. So you should assume that UTG+1 has a hand that is not worth a cap. That makes it much clearer that you have the requisite 25% pot equity when it matters what you do.

I would bet the flop because it is quite likely that no one else will:

1. UTG+1 will probably check to the last raiser.

2. CO very often has third pair because two aces and two kings are in sight. Most people will not bet JJ into three opponents including another PFR with this board.

3. Why is Button supposed to bet?

Most of the time I cap preflop as well. In the first hand I decided to try another line.
It really felt better when I capped in the second hand.
