Well, one of the guys was a total first-timer, had nothing to compare it to, and busted damn quick.

My other friend is a very serious player and does quite well in general (on-line and B&M). He liked the tourney, thought the quality of play was good, etc.

They said that there were in the neighborhood of 150 players (and this was on a Sunday), with about 10% getting paid.

Don't know if that's enough to help you make a decision or not; if you have a specific question I can e-mail my friend and ask it on your behalf.

I was just curious if it was full of donks or not. Sounds like it has a bunch of decent players in it, which makes it less attractive to me, but I might play it anyway just to pop my B&M MT cherry.

We didn't talk about it that much, but it sounded like a mix: a number of 'regulars' who seemed to know what they were doing with an equal or greater number of guys who love WPT and wear sunglasses at a 2/4 table.

The thing that was most appealing to my friends (and to me if I had chosen to play an MTT instead of a limit table) was that it was a freezeout.

Yeah I'm a big fan of freezeouts. If I bust, I bust and go sit at a ring game.

I'd imagine a bunch of regulars at that game, you have to plan on playing a tournament that starts at 10:15am on a weekend, and people who plan on playing tournaments are probably better than average.

Good trip report. Thanks for the info.

Sure thing; if you end up hitting the Taj, lemme know what you think.

The dealers were all friendly (although one dealer would shout -- really shout -- 'RAISE' whenever anyone raised, scaring a few players every time)

[/ QUOTE ]

Hahaha. This guy scared the [censored] out of me. I was there on Sunday and had this dealer for the first time. I swear the one old guy was going to have a heart attack.

The rest of the day I kept hearing him from different parts of the room. That was pretty funny.

What did your buddies think of the $100+20 10:15am freezeout tournament the Taj runs? Did they think it was a good structure, or was it a crapshoot since the levels are only 20 or 25 minutes. I'm considering playing in that tournament next saturday and wanted an opinion or two.

[/ QUOTE ]

I played in Saturday's so I'm assuming it was run the same. The structure wasn't bad, yes it was a tad fast but I've seen worse.

I never moved from my original table so I didn't see that many different players, but most of the players I saw were pretty weak. I can think of four right off the top of my head who made some horrendous mistakes.

I was playing 2/4, but I don't think I was at your table.

Right on. Maybe I'll catch you on the next Taj visit.
