don\'t know anything about macs, help?
im in the market for a new laptop and was looking at the apple iBooks. problem is i really know nothing about them.
as a lifelong pc user, if i were to get one what kind of problems would i run into?

specifically:
how many programs that i use on a pc wont work on a mac? will i be able to transfer all of my files from a pc to a mac? can macs and pcs be connected to the same router?

Its my understanding that macs are really only made for art people. You cannot play most poker sites and there are alot other problems. Im not an expert by any means so u may want other addvice.

In the past, iBooks came with Appleworks, which was compatible with MS Word. You can also get Office for Mac, so all of those types of files will be compatible. Most programs are available on Mac now, but they're usually longer getting out than the PC ones.
They're far more reliable than PCs, as well, and easier to fix if anything software related goes wrong. Of course, the hardware is far more expensive to fix. No problems hooking it & a PC to the same router, either.

The biggest issue you'll have, Mark, is not getting used to the interface, Macs are pretty intuitive, and all that, but the frustration that comes with software.
For example, most games that come out for pcs take forever to get ported to Macs. Macs just work, but a lot of the software companies don't make versions of their software for macs. Sad but true. What are your drivers for getting a Mac instead of sticking with a pc?

[/ QUOTE ] Macs are generally more problem free than PC's, and much easier/intuitive to use, especially with multimedia applications. downside: only a couple poker clients run on Mac, and lots of specialized software may not be available for Mac. basically, your selection of add-ons is more limited, and often more expensive. Mac's are great, and if it wasn't for poker,I would buy one.

[/ QUOTE ] well i havent decided yet, but i know some people (although they use theirs primarily for school) who really like their iBooks so i figured i would at least look into them. would pretty much all p**** related software not work?
