Default PLO8 Another A A hand

Full table pot limit $50 table.

I'm UTG and dealt A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Is this a raise from this position?

Thanks,

Dave

Yes. You've got a 20% chance of flopping a flush draw and a ~23% chance of flopping a set. So about 40% total of flopping a decent equity hand (not to mention the AA by itself). When you do flop a draw or a set (nearly half the time), you want to have a nice big pot to play with. It's an easy raise.

Don't just raise with lows from UTG unless you want to be nice and readable. This is an ideal hand to mix it up with.

Anyone else....? We've got two votes for raise and two votes for don't raise. lol

I'm tempted to play this as I would a hold 'em hand from early position that plays better with fewer opponents....but to be honest...in this particular case...I wimped out, didn't raise and folded the flop to a coordinated board.

This feels like it would be more profitable being played fast.

This is a hand you want to play in late position. I'd call UTG but it's not worth a raise. You'll win smaller pots and lose bigger ones due to playing in a weak position.

and even when you hit flushdraws or sets there will be lows or lowdraws out as well. this is a good hand but you'll win the min and lose the max out of position.

This is about equity, check raising, and bad players at $50. Since when is it bad to flop a high equity hand or nut draw? This "win the min, lose the max" is just nonsense when you have people who'll call with rubbish hands and rubbish draws. You want to play big pots against such players, and ideally get all in by the turn. You can't do that unless you raise preflop.

If you're in a PL$400 game with a few decent players then obviously you're correct.

Obviously, it depends on your opponents, but in general playing the way you suggest is not optimal against most.
