Rivered perfect; how much to bet?
2/5 6-handed game.
I'm UTG+1 with threes and about 420 behind. UTG (500) limps (he's kind of loose-passive, but I don't have a huge read), I limp behind, folded to BB who checks. Flop 442 with two diamonds (I do not have a diamond) and 17 in the pot. Checked to me and I bet 14, UTG calls. Turn is an offsuit 5, 42 in the pot. UTG checks, I bet 35, he calls. River is my miracle joker 3 of diamonds, putting a 4-straight and a 3-flush on board. There is about 100 in the pot, and I have 375 left. UTG covers me. He checks, and I bet... |

I cant figure out what the heck he has, but its hard to believe he chased a flush and then checked it to you when he hit it.
I bet $75. |

Re: Rivered perfect; how much to bet?
Why not overbet the pot? If he has a hand (straight/flush) hes gonna want a semi-cheap showdown and you dont wanna give it to him, but if hes got a bad 2 pair hes not gonna call a 3/4 pot bet anyway with so many draws hitting. Might as well get paid off well wen he does have a good second best hand.

i think an all in gets a lot of 2nd best hands to fold that $100-$150 doesn't.

Re: Rivered perfect; how much to bet?
So I pushed and he folded. In retrospect, I think betting around 150 would have been better. It's a bit tough for an Ace to call a push on the end, and he may even fold a 6, given that I seem to be representing a flush.

[/ QUOTE ] i don't think you're representing even the flush there... i think you're representing a boat wanting a flush to call. the thing is, what's going on in your head is "oh sweet that card is perfect, he'll never put me on 3's full." and no, he won't put you on that.... but he might very well put you on 45 or something else that would make a boat, slowplayig the whole way. so when making your bet think about that.. .that though the river was perfect, the river didn't have to make your hand. i think many flushes will fold to that massive overbet on the end, personally. |

Had he shown any aggression previously in the hand, I would have like that play.

Re: Rivered perfect; how much to bet?
you don't want to go allin here for 375$ when there is 100 in the pot unless he is truly terrible player. i would look to get as much money as possible if he has the flush or possible something like 56 as a bad two pair or an ace won't call much here?
I think i would bet 200-300 if he is bad, less if hes good, and more (allin) if he is terrible. This is due to the fact that i don't often bet twice the pot on a bluff thus i have to bet less if he's good due to Shania reasons. |
