Palms Poker Room

I am heading over to Vegas in January and staying at the Palms Hotel. Anyone have any experience/opinions on their poker room?

Incredibly small for the number of tables, tables are shoe-horned into the space, no real waiting area if you are on a list, front podium has no room i.e very cramped. However, since you are staying there it is worth checking out for yourself.

Genrally, I would recommend Bellagio, Mirage, Monte Carlo, Mandalay Bay, in that order.

Being in that poker room makes me feel like I am inside a Chipotle chain restaurant. Feels like they used the exact same designer.

It's not worth the drive, but obviously since you are staying there, it's worth a session or two.

I had my first B&M experience this past summer at the Palms. The room was very small but I had a good seat along the wall so I wasn't uncomfortable, but I could see that others were.

Considering it was my first time, I thought the 2/4 was definitely beatable. I had a pretty good 6 hour run on a table that was 30-40% local rocks (they told me Palms had good jackpot payouts, which is why they chose to play there). The rest were tourists - some decent, some drunk and clueless. I'd say I was somewhere in between. [img]/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img]

Overall the hotel is overrated and overpriced, but its the "hip" place to be and has some good food and drink (and eye candy) so I guess it's worth a shot. Rain, Ghostbar (and even the hotel bar) are def worth a try if you don't mind either paying the bouncers or standing on line. But the casino is nothing special, and the repeating music track can drive a man insane after a day or two.

You will find a wide variety of opinions in a thread started Oct 13.

Personally I like their poker room and try to play there Friday night to get in their stud/8 game
if I'm in vegas over a weekend. Most posters seem to dislike it, but entertainment is subjective.
I also enjoy the Monte Carlo, Excalibur, and the Bellagio, but dislike the Mirage which many others enjoy.

Everyplace out there is unique in it's setup, type of games, limits, structures, cast of characters, scenery, etc.
You will find an interesting collection of characters in the Palms.

I have only viewed the room, and agree it's too crowded in there for this newer Hard Rock hotel wanna-be, I bought a MP3 player so it probably wouldn't bother me that much, I may play there in the future, if you're driving I recommend the first parking structure you will see as you approach the joint. Decent video poker there too, if you have to wait... that I have done there...

If you like Stud/8, you definitely want to check out this game. Its 2-10 spread, 20 on the river, double qualifier (so a 6-4 low can drag the whole pot) with a Kill. Lot of locals, I've played in it twice, about four months apart and it was almost exactly the same table both times... Fun game, very profitable
