Default A little reality check poll here....

Hey all,

I'm going to put out two issue related death statistics.

Item A:

This ITEM A has been linked to 105,000 deaths per year. This item has been blamed for its influence in crime and abuse. A possible vast majority of people use ITEM A for pleasure and responsibly. Games and sports have been invented with the use of ITEM A. Used judiciously, research has proved the use of ITEM A has been shown to have health benefits but there has been NO EVIDENCE that it has saved a life. There is an age restriction with the use of this item and the sale of this item is highly regulated on the nation and state level. And there is some restiction to it use and presence in public.

Item B:

ITEM B has been liked with ~30,000 deaths per year. This item has been used in sports and in recreation. Misuses of this item has resulted in deaths. ITEM B has been shown in research to save from injury and\or death 400,000 - 2.5 million times per year. There are restrictions on the purchase and use of this item on the national and state level.

Both Items:

Both items have been banned or are banned in certain circumstances. The banning of each items have garrenteed their possession by criminals and have fueled their ability to harm the public at large. There are a lot of people in jail because of the misuse of these items.

Questions:

1. Which item is a larger danger to the public at large?
2. Should either of these items be banned?
3. If yes, which one should be banned first or would have the greatest effect on the public at large?
4. Can you name the two items?

Alcohol and Morphine?

-or-

Alcohol and Pseudoephedrine?

Although I'd think that Alcohol could potentially be attributed to saving lives (at least in ancient history) because of it's disinfectant qualities.

Using these two figures for comparison purposes is really only valid if the use of ITEM A = ITEM B. That said, I'll play along anyway.

1. Item A
2. Not in the USA
4. Alcohol & Pain killers?

My 3rd guess would be:

Nicotine and Morphine (or other pain killer)

Good call on the Alcohol possibly saving lives. That is a little wishy-washy.

To all ITEM A = Alcohol...

ITEM B is a little tough to nail down appearently...

I am only making the correlation that each item is used by an individual.

HINT: They are completely different in substance and in their use. They are not interchangable.
