[/ QUOTE ] Cool. I grew up in Hawaii and didn't even know that. Everyone always just said it was the menehunes. The superstition is amazingly strong about cars stopping on the old Pali road, with kind of an ominous feel. I'm surprised nobody ever, in all the billion times I've heard it talked about, spoke of this legend being the result of anything but menehunes.
