Re: My next read is...?
Here are the next three books you should read.
1) Theory of Poker 2) Theory of Poker 3) Theory of Poker After this, you might consider rereading Theory of Poker. You might be able to delay step three for six months or so if you concentrate really hard on steps one and two. |

You asked for one book but I'm giving you six. Poker is hard to learn how to play. The price of buying six books is totally insignificant compared to what it will cost if you don't buy them. If you want to learn limit poker, buy and read in this order: WLLH : Winning Low Limit Holdem ITH : Internet Texas Holdem SSH : Small Stakes Holdem TOP : Theory of Poker Middle Limit Holdem : Middle Limit Holdem HEPFAP : Holdem Poker For Advanced Players To play in NL also read: Super System, PL&NL Pot Limit and No Limit Poker HoH Harrington on Holdem [/ QUOTE ] Fixed it to put the names of the books. |

Re: My next read is...?
I like SSH for a first book. I'm a math-smart guy and wish it was the first book I'd read. If the reader isn't math-smart then a lot of the concepts are going to be strange but the overall idea should still come through. I've only skimmed WLLH but it seemed really lame to me and I decided not to buy it. I was a home stud and draw player who was BAD before the holdem revolution was brought to us via the televised tournaments four years ago. Once I figured out that poker was better than counting cards at BJ (yay math) I dove right into it.
SSH is a great first book for any high SAT math score (the college test) newbie. TOP is WAY too over the top for any newbie, it doesn't even go over starting hands. Super System is the one I read first and it's outdated. HEPFAP is a great book but doesn't apply for the low limit loose game. I'm waiting for HoH for a NL book. I've learned NL from exp and reading 2+2 |

Re: My next read is...?
The first book I read was Hellmuth's Play Poker Like the Pros.
I can't say I recommend it. The next three books I read were: WLLH TOP SSH in that order. I think it's a good progression - they are in the order Clarkmeister recommended. |

Re: My next read is...?
I am new to this as well, and I would definitely recommend WLLH for a first book, very easy to read, detailed and "simple". After that I am not really sure where to go as I am at that crossroad. Good luck!

Here are the next three books you should read. 1) Theory of Poker 2) Theory of Poker 3) Theory of Poker [/ QUOTE ] TOP is an excellent book. As you progress you will get more and more from it with each new pass. I read it early in my readings and much of it passed blithely by; however re-readings after SSHE and others really helped. I would read another book before you start into TOP, but it is definately a multiple readings kind of endeavour. cheers, the Real Macoy |

How much this book improved my game can't be overstated. |
