Default World Cup- Calling All Euros

Somebody on this [censored] site has to have placed money on the World Cup. I'm thinking of taking Italy at 9 to 1. What do you guys think of that play? Who do you have your money on?

England at 10-1 is the only way to fly.

italy is a good bet here i think. im partial.

i like czech republic at 25:1.

the US has the potential to win this thing. we are not top shelf, but what i notice is that noone around the same odds as us is even near our equal. i like the environment that the US is in. nobody wants us to win and noone takes us very seriously. i think we will get good odds for a while.

note, i've never bet on the WC before. ive always felt like we're at an information deficit here in the US.

Is it me - or is it pointless to bet since qualifying isn't even complete yet and no one in Europe has clinched?

I haven't checked the standings recently, so I don't know exactly where Italy is - wait I'll check now -

Okay I just checked, 4 points up half way though - so pretty safe bet to make it through.

But what is the advantage to betting now vs. waiting for the field to be announced and the pairings to be set?

I have to think odds can change based on who is their group, who they would meet in the round of 16, etc.

It just seems early, as a lot of variables can happen in the next 13 months, and you can get much more accurate odds in 10 months.

do you necessarily want more accurate odds? if your theory is correct, why start with the seedings? why not wait til the final game to bet? the chance of not qualifying and the chance of landing the group of death is part of the deal.

only 1 of europes top teams is unlikely to qualify. did europe get an extra spot this time around? not sure but i dont think they did. CONCACAf got an extra 1/2 spot. im convinced this is to further ensure the US qualifies for each WC.
