I do the same thing but with pennies instead of nickels. When I was little, my father traded me for a single grain of white rice, slathered in a half dallop of muushu sauce. This made me cripplingly insecure. Distributing my asspennies helped me overcome that insecurity.

You cannot cash the nickels in.

I would sell them to a bank instead then.

In a free market things can be traded. There is no way that I would be totally unable to transfer the nickels to a more useful form of currency, most likely in the form of electronic funds for my checking account.

Coinstar takes 8.9 cents per dollar, which means you could cash them in at coinstar and get $91,100 back, still umm... $81,100 more. Plus you could easily take the nickels to the bank and cash them in, or worst case your local federal reserve branch, you could pay for a flight, transportation for your nickel, a few whores, beer, condoms and still have a lot of money left than the $10,000 in cash you would have gotten.
