Default betting in the dark against a weak opponent

30-60 game with full kill-- this is a kill pot. Villian is a loose moderately aggressive player, who I think is relatively new to B&M poker. (I base this off a few things. He wasn't comfortable handling chips, didnt understand about taking Time and often folded out of turn).

Villian has the kill. Folded to him, he check. I have KQ suited in the SB. I raise. Villian calls.

I bet in the dark.

thoughts?

He's calling nearly everything preflop so this bet might be for value

dark betting usually results in more calls from my experience in live play.

i dont reccomend it, personally.

good point,I didnt think of it that way, but he might relate it to the instabets online and play accordingly. are you using this tactic to try and shut him out of the pot? is it a move geared towards trying to express a lot of strength? i think these bets get called so often because people see an outward sign of strength and automatically think it is weak.....

I'd try it on a weak tight player.....not sure i'd do it with someone who's new to B&M....

i was trying to take down the pot at this point. I thought he wouldn't be familiar this and may fold a smallish pair. Also, I thought we would be less likely to raise on the flop with a dark bet vs. a non-dark bet.

And you dark bet to do what? If you are trying to take down the pot, you aren't too bright. If you are hoping he calls or raise with a worse hand, nh.

in retrospect, i tried to accomplish a couple things here

1) value bet to built a bigger pot with most likely the best hand

2) encourage action from the newbie incase I hit my hand and had him dominated.

3) possibly set up to take the pot on the turn.

given the situation I am going to bet this flop 100 out of 100 times. I figured betting it dark against an inexperienced player make actually help me win a bigger pot. it might also slow him down a bit if say he hits middle pair, but i think that is more debatable
