Isle of Capri Casino - Bettendorf

Just checking to see if anyone has played at Isle of Capri Casino in Bettendorf, Iowa and what the thought of the poker room and players? Thanks in advance as I'm going to in the Bettendorf area on October 1st and was thinking of checking out the poker room.

I've played there a couple of times driving home to Chicago after a weeks work in Iowa.

I have always been there on a Wed or Thursday night between 5pm - 10pm (so weekends may be different).

There always seems to be a long wait and they usually only had 2 tables open. One of the tables one night was actually a rotating HORSE game.

The game itself was pretty unremarkable each time I played. Overall, if you are in Iowa, I prefer the Indiana Casino in Tama better, but that's in the middle of the state.

You may want to try to call ahead to the poker room before you go and see if you can get on the wait list. I haven't tried it, but if I ever go back, I would definitely call ahead. IMHO its not worth the trip, unless that's your only option to play poker.

I played there once. Seemed to be a pretty stable set of locals playing pretty loose. Felt a lot like a home game.

I don't remember many details but I think on a Thursday night in mid '04 there were maybe two $3/6 kill games and a much bigger dealer's choice.

Played there once last fall, on a Monday night. There were three tables of 4/8 with a 1/2 kill. The upstairs poker room was smoke free, and well away from the ambient noise of the casino. They did have the MNF game on with the sound turned down somewhat low. Action was decent.

Dealers were friendly and competent.

Waitresses were average, but they did offer food service to the room.

I would play there again if I were in a 75 mile radius from it.

Not worth the trip. When Indiana poker ended the reign of the President in Davenport ten years ago....it was all over for that area.

Anyone remember the room at the President? Who would believe it? They were spreading 30/60, 20/40, and 10/20 Holdem, plus Stud and Omaha. The President in Davenport was a better (acton) poker room, than any thing which has developed in the midwest. That was actually the last time (in the midwest), a novice could have witnessed working pros, who were actually making money playing poker. You see them in Vegas and Atalantic City. I think some of those players, showed up from other places. They disappeared, when Indiana and Illinois rooms opened. There were authentic "grinders" at Davenport. Pay no attention to the ill informed. I live in the area and play there often.

There are tourneys on Monday morning ($15+5 half Hold Em, half Omaha 8, rebuy), Tuesday evening ($15+5 Hold Em, rebuy) and Wednesday evening ($40+10 with a single $20 addon), and now there's a $100+15 Hold Em freezeout on the second Sunday of every month.

Sunday and Monday you'll usually just find a couple 3/6 HE games with a full kill. There used to be a 4/8 Omaha 8 game on Monday, but this seems to have evaporated.

Tuesdays before the tournament it's usually pretty busy and you can generally find a 6/12 Dealer's Choice half-kill game (it's not really Dealer's Choice, all "Dealer's Choice" games here are really half and half games of Hold Em and Omaha 8, one orbit each).

Wednesdays before and after the tournament are usually pretty busy. Other than the normal 3/6 games you might find a 6/12 before or sometimes 2/5 NL afterwards.

Thursdays have a 20/40 DC.

Fridays are always packed during the evenings. You can usually find 6/12 DC, possibly 8/16 DC, and 18 billion 3/6 games.

Saturdays are normally quite busy as well. You might find a 6/12 DC or HE game, there used to be a 20/40 DC game, but just recently this has peetered out in favor of the 2/5 NL game.

All of these things are in constant flux, and conditions may be different on any given day. I would call ahead. Also, if you just ask around you can sometimes get together different games. Oh yeah, there are seven tables here, but they're usually only full during tourneys and on weekends. Expect a waiting list for the larger games. There may or may not be a list for 3/6.

Also, some of the dealers are very competent, and some are more mediocre. Be nice to them and tip them well.

I'm actually not sure if you can get on the lists by phoning ahead or not. For whatever reason I've just never tried to do it. I know you definitely can't do it for the tournaments, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to try it for the cash games. The place is run in its own little peculiar way.

If you are going into Bettendorf west on I-80 in Illinois or you will be using I-74, you will be in the Rock Island, East Moline District 7 Illinois State Police area. You could as innocent as snow white, but they will find something to charge you with...even if they have to create something. Be careful and have your lawyer's business card in your pocket when in that East Moline, Rock Island area.
