Looking for Help with Table Selection

some people have pointed out to me the importance of table selection. right now, I just join the waiting list for tables with 6 or more players (to avoid getting put in a 6 max table). I've noticed a striking difference at 5/10 from table to table, so I'd really appreciate any tips any of you might have on finding a good table, especially at 5/10.

- How do you maintain your buddy list? How does someone become special enough to end up on your list?
- Do you use the Average $/pot column? to be honest, I never use that
- Do you look for one very loose player or a few soft spots
- Do you bother to avoid the solid players, or just find the poor players?
- Do you have any other tactics

any tips on how to find better tables would be much appreciated

As you can see not something I pay much attention to, long as the average pot size isn't too small the table will do.

My comments apply only to 3/6:

1. VP$IP > 40% = Insta-Buddy
2. Meh. I never sat down at a 3/6 table that had an average less than $25. But...there are better ways to tell that a table isn't so soft.
3. Few soft > One Loose, imo.
4. I find it's hard to always avoid the solid players. Each table usually has at least one good player. I just try to keep the moneybags on my right or across the table.

I base my selection at low limit almost exclusively on the % of those whom cold call raises.

How reliable is the $/pot stat? Does anyone know how it's calculated? Is it an average of the last hour or something? I've always thought that, with such a high turnover rate, an average of the last hour would be way off

It changes pretty damn quickly, so I reckon it might be something like last 10 hands.

yeah CC% is an important stat but how do I apply that to online table selection?

I generally get on 4 tables as fast as I can and if the table sucks then I get on a few more lists and change tables. I have never scoped tables before, although I'm sure it is profitable to do so.

I have sat at very few tables where I didn't think I could make a good profit.

I play the 5/10 and I do not use buddy lists. I do look at pot size, and generally if it is less than 5bb, the table ain't so hot. If I get to a table, and I identify the loosies, I really prefer to have them on my right. I will often go so far as to not sit at the table, even with loosies, if I do not like my position. I really think at the 5/10 game having the loosies to the right and tighties to the left is a huge + to my earn.

I do not avoid solid players, unless I can identify 4+ at the table with no known doners. Also, often the bad beat tables are far better than the regular games, and the additional bad players surely makes up for the extra 50 cent drop.
