Default Hopkins-Taylor

I might have missed the post, or didn't see it, but we're less than a week away. In the words of Tony Kornheiser, "Who ya got??" My brother told me the odds were about -160 B Hop so I think with odds this close my money is on B Hop. He is definately the better fighter. He seems pretty hungry, at least hungrier than Kostya and Felix. I think he really wants to cement his legacy and go out with a bang. So I doubt he will slip up and let some youngster come and beat him. Plus he fights too cautiously to get knocked out.

Smart money to me is on the over. It will probably go the decision IMO but there is a chance someone will get knocked out. At close to even odds I find it hard to believe B Hop only wins this match 50% of the time. If the odds were maybe +200 or +250 I might bet on Taylor, but even then I would be scared. There is always the EA Sports curse to take into account, but I think Ray Lewis broke that. Thoughts?

Hopkins is a warrior.. I love his style in the ring.. hes patient when has to be and ruthless when the time is right.

He seems to do everything right which is why i think hes been so succesful.. he can cover up and evade well, can combine punches and also throws hard. Almost every round of every fight I have seen with him in it, it looks like he is dictating the pace and type of the fight.

To compare hes like the San Antonio Spurs.. he can do everything well, so he can play with your strength, and also go after your weakness.

If I were to bet it would be on Hopkins or the over

??? Hopkins is about -160. That translates to over 60%.

The over for this fight is a better bet then any other boxing bet in a long time. Taylor could KO Hopkins, but Hopkins is such a smart defensive fighter, Taylor will not land many big power shots. And Hopkins doesnt worry about KOs and impressing the audience, he knows the "W" on the record is the most important thing for his legacy. I see Taylor landing some good jabs, but Hopkins will not be KOed by a jab and his jab will set up bigger punches, Hopkins will be able to move so he doesnt take them clean or with stands the power. Think of the last time you can remember Hopkins being seriously hurt by a punch, Roy Jones maybe?

The only was I don't think the under would happen if there is a stoppage because of roughhousing. Hopkins is a dirty fighter (he boost that himself), he could be DQ because of wrestling or low blows (Against Keith Holmes he got lost 3 points and had as many warnings) or the Hopkins rough tatics injure himself or Taylor and then they can't continue. I still can see an injuried Hopkins not finishing hte fight even if it means him sputtering to the finish line.

Sportsbook has the over @-185 is sweet and Pinnacle just went up from -193 to -206. Now the hunt for the lowest line begins.

Any other ideas/opinions?

Good info. I also think the over is a good bet for the same reasons you stated. I will definately bet on the over. Pretty sure about betting on B Hop as well.

I also like Hopkins in this fight, especially @ -140 or less. I have watched all of Hopkins over the last 4 years and he looks SHARP and focused in EVERYONE. He just does not become distracted like so many fighters today. He is just a mental fighter that is hard to fully understand his mind games he plays with his opponets and himself.

I think Taylor will be MW champ just not this Sat. He has all the tools, but right now it is Bernard's division and everyone else is second fidle. If this fight was in 2006 or early 2007 I would favor Taylor as well, but right now Hopkins has the rest of his career all planned out and following Bernard's career, one thing is sure, What Hopkins wants, Hopkins gets.

I am wondering blue what your reasoning for taking Taylor? or are you just from Little Rock?

I Was outta town so I couldn't get my Sam Peter's under bet in, but I hope so of you guys made some money on that peach.

Taylor is a solid fighter, but he really hasn't faced anyone of Hopkins caliber. His most impressive win was over William Joppy, who he couldn't even KO. He will not KO Hopkins either. I think JT will lose a UD, or possibly a late KO by Hopkins. If I were Jermaine, I'd fight Sam Soliman, Felix Sturm, or Howard Eastman, and if I got past one of them, I'd than fight Hopkins. Taylor is a diamond in the rough, I don't know if he is ready for Hopkins.
