Default Beginner Hand

Hey, Im just starting to learn stud as Im trying to get good at all the games. I read 7stud fap once but I dont think it really all sat in yet. I played about 30 hands today between classes, heres one.

Party 1/2 4 handed
I get (A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]) 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
I raise the bring in and get called by one guy whos played every hand as far as Ive seen. Hes been quite passive too.
He has a 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]showing

Our final boards ended up like this:
(A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]) 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img](6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img])
He had 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] showing.

I bet every street and he called every street. Im wondering though, since I never improved or even picked up a draw, is there any point where I should check/call instead of betting? He was passive so I dont think there was an chance to induce a bluff.

The problem is that neither of you have a particularly threatening board. Beginning with 4th street, he's leading the betting. If I'm first to bet, I fire at him all the way down. In this hand, however, he's first to bet after 4th street. I'd make his check good on 6th street and consider folding to a bet on 7th street.

Regards,
Noal

Yes. Check call the river. He's not going to fold any two pair, and he might not call with one small pair, but if he backed into a straight or trips, he will probably raise your river bet. I say check call the river.

I often have this same problem.

I generally slow down if I have observed the opponent being somewhat selective of the hands he plays. Otherwise I close my eyes and fire until I start getting some resistance.

I have seen a bunch of people call call call call with crap.

And I'd check behind on the river. He might not call with a hand you beat for 1 bet but he definetly won't fold a hand that beats you for 1 bet. So just check behind and hope you hold up.

If hes loose and passive, bet the river if he raises fold.

People dont bet into these loose passive players near enough. They will often call with any pair on the end but they require a bigger hand to bet and an even bigger hand yet to raise.

If you dont feel confident betting out check and fold if he bets.

Its obvious to me that if this guywill call with one pair but needs two pair to bet yet will only raise with trips or better your play is pretty clear.

It is definitely worth betting your hand through sixth street. It is probably worth betting the river as well. If he shows you two pair, so be it.
