Default Aggro hand against FossilMan

Same four-handed 5-10 NLHE as the other post. People have changed seats and Greg is now across the table from me. I think we both have over 2k.

FossilMan opens for 20 UTG. Button folds and I make it 80 straight with red 99. The BB gets out of the way and Greg calls.

Flop (170) is KQ5, all spades. Gorgeous. I bet 140 and Greg calls.

Turn (450) is 8s and we both check.

River (450) is a small, unassuming card. I bet 350.

Some of the details might be wrong and maybe Greg can correct them. Stay tuned for results.

What immeadiately comes to mind is a touranment report fossilman made about i think foxwoods $10,000 tournament. he had a pair of dueces and called preflop, on the flop, and a significant bet on the river all unimproved. i would be very hesitant to try and push him off a hand.

I wouldn't have gotten out of line if I didn't know he was good enough to lay down a pretty big flush if it looked like a loser. I just wasn't very convincing.

Your chances of getting me to lay down in a hand like this would be much higher in a live game. Too many wackos online, even if you're not one of them (it can be infectious).

hey greg, several people have conjectured why you didn't raise the flop. I'd love to hear what your primary motives are for not raising 4 handed. I can understand trapping more in a full game than I can short, but I don't play as good as you. comments on the flop call?

i like not raising the flop, then raising the turn when the spade doesnt fall. then i like fossils check on the turn, then the river is a tough decision.

on gog's side, thats a weird situation to be put in. i agree he shoulda bet the turn, but fossil has to know theres a good chance he wouldnt play a high spade like this so i figure it wouldnt have mattered, and fossil would have called him down anyway.

The plan at the time was to just call, and make it look like I had the big spade. Then, when Gab realizes that, he will bet into me on the turn and river, as long as no spade hits, figuring I can't call the river. Then, I raise the river, and either he folds, or he puts me on a desperation bluff and calls, in which case I win really big.

The spade on the turn ruined that plan, had to go to plan B (i.e., make sure Gab does not have a spade).

If I'm going to bluff again here I'm bluffing the turn. If he calls, I shut down, unless I river two more nines. Checking the turn and betting the river looks wierd here, unless he's seen you do it before with similar hands.

I agree with acesover8s here, I think betting the river here is a little suspicious, betting the turn looks more natural with a real holding. Aces says he'd shut down on the river but if you bet the turn and the river is a spade that might be a good place to try again, depends on how the game was going.
