Word, you definitely don't want to return those.
Pick up Theory of Poker, Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players, and Small Stakes Hold'em. I don't know how they directly contribute to tournaments, but they definitely teach you how to think like a poker player, so they're important. |

Re: Can\'t get out of the starting gate (long and l/c)
I've actually found that my mistakes have been things like taking the concept on these boards too far. For example one of my big leaks I'm working on is my level of aggression from 5 to 3 handed, and add 6 handed there when the blinds are high.
Poker is all about adjusting to your opponents. If all you gave about the hand was blind sizes, stack sizes, and cards, there are several different ways to play a hand based on different opponents. For example if your opponent is aggressive post flop, check to him and let him bet your monsters for you. If your opponent is passive post flop, he will fold anyway if he has garbage but he won't bet a hand he'll call with, so bet. If you try the same plays against different types of players you will get burned. |

Re: Can\'t get out of the starting gate (long and l/c)
This is just a guess, but I think you may be too hesitant to push hands when you're near the bubble. This is an element of your game that absolutely HAS to develop if you want to start beating these consistently. I noticed you said that you loosen up near the bubble... but do you mean that you raise more or call more? Because if you're just seeing more flops, well then, we may have just spotted your leak.

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, ditto this. I think of it like being ferrari, its a lot about acceleration. You want to be able to from 0-60 and in 5 secs and back to 0 if you so choose. Dont go from 20 to 30... (sorry for the horribly corny analogy) |

Re: Can\'t get out of the starting gate (long and l/c)
To tell you the truth, I don't see many flops on the bubble. When I enter a pot, it's with a raise or a push. Mostly the latter of the two. I'd post some hands but I'm super busy at work.

If you don't have Theory of Poker you must get it immediately.
Once you get it re-read it every 3-4 months. |

Re: statistics
Here are 2 seperate samples taken months apart. These are on Stars, my data on Party is incomplete. Sample A, I basically played like I play limit, before I knew much about SnGs. Sample B, I felt comfortable in playing tight early and aggressive on the bubble. However, there is a glaring black mark on my finish distribution, 21.5% in 6th place. I don't know what I'm doing wrong at this part of the SnG. Perhaps I'm changing gears too soon. I'll go drag out some hands of my last few 6th place finishes.
Sample A - Pokerstars $5+.50 (January 2005) Tourneys: 119 ROI: -14.1% ITM: 30.3% Distribution: 1 - 14 - 11.8% 2 - 11 - 9.2% 3 - 11 - 9.2% 4 - 22 - 18.5% 5 - 20 - 16.8% 6 - 19 - 16.0% 7 - 11 - 9.2% 8 - 4 - 3.4% 9 - 7 - 5.9% Sample B - Pokerstars $5+.50 (June 2005) Tourneys: 158 ROI: 1% ITM: 39.2% Distribution: 1 - 16 - 10.1% 2 - 23 - 14.6% 3 - 23 - 14.6% 4 - 18 - 11.4% 5 - 19 - 12.0% 6 - 34 - 21.5% 7 - 11 - 7.0% 8 - 8 - 5.1% 9 - 6 - 3.8% |
