Best way to stack chips...

One really tall stack.
Then when you lose a pot swing at it as hard as you can and swear really loudly. Causing a scene is +EV

Just stack them in seemingly random piles, all of which get slightly larger as you move inwards. It makes you look messy and loose.

It doesnt matter that much, but....
for limit it doesnt matter
for NL I dont make it easier for opponents to count me down I use stacks of between 30-50 chips
For tournaments you have to make your chips easily countable so stacks of 20 are the best

NEVER MAKE STACKS LESS THAN 20, sure sign you are a newbie

I start with stacks of 20, then as I win, I build to stacks of 40. I try to create a "wall" of chips in front of me. I might try this pyramid thing though..
