Default chip distribution?

My brother and i are going to host a stud game at his house but we've never really done it before. It's probably going to be .25/.50 with a 20 dollar buy in. How should we deal out the chips?

what're you doing, 10 cent ante, 15 bring-in? That can change things.

I guess I should have mentioned that, too.

Yeah, that's the plan. 10 cent ante, 15 cent bring in

we play .10/.25 nl
min buyin $5
max buyin $25

$10 buyin is 20 red $0.05, 20 green %0.25, 4 black $1

If you have 200 chips of two denominations, this should work for your stud game. If you have extra of one color, use that color as the quarter chips. It's good to have the primary bet denomination used most frequently, as the pot is more aesthetically pleasing this way and it gives the impression of a "<color>-chip" game.

Maybe i just have ocd. Mrow.

How many chips do you have? How many players are you expecting?

Lots of 0.05 cent chips and 0.25 chips are key, no need to really worry about anything else unless you have aa lot of chips left over.

Looks like you'll need mostly nickels and quarters.

the key is not that everyone gets the same # of chips, but rather if they buy in for $10 that they get $10 worth of chips regardless of how many red or blue chips each player gets.

Doesn’t really matter how you do it. Like TN Poker Man said just give everyone get the appropriate money amount of chips. If you think the betting will stay lower than give more of those with $1.00 and $5.00 chips as needed to complete them money amount. A lot depends on the amount of players and whatever limits you may have then work that against how many chips you own. Don’t forget if people will be buying more chips you will need to allow for that also.

If your stud game is .25/.50 limits, you should just do like the casinos do -- no antes, low card brings it in for .25. That way you eliminate the need for .05 or .10 chips. Then you can stick to .25 chips and $1 chips. If it's $20 buy in, your chips should be .25, $1, and $5. Since it's .25/.50, I would give everyone $2-3 in .25 chips and the rest in $1. Save the $5 chips for rebuys.
