Default Question about fold equity.

I'm slowly starting to understand the concept of Pot Equity.
As far as I understand it is the percent chance I have to end up the winner, and if it is larger than the average equity(100 divided by the amount of people in the hand) then I should bet, or push my edge in another way.

Now is fold equity the equity I gain by other people folding, or is it the equity I gain if I fold?

If it is the equity I gain by folding then can someone explain to me how exactly that works? I thought that a fold is always 0% equity.

Sorry my post isn't clear, I'm pretty stoned.

Default Re: Question about fold equity.

If you bet and I make a big raise...my folding equity is the percentage of times that you will fold to the raise.

If the flop came and you bet and then I pushed all in, and without us knowing it, we had hands that were about 50/50 were you to call, then my play has positive expectation, because if you call, we are 50/50 to win, but you will fold some percentage of the time when faced with a huge all in.

This is the folding equity which when added to my 50/50 chance of winning if called, gives me a great hand.
