How to play an \"unfriendly tournament structure\" !
I understand an "unfriendly tournament structure" is one that lessens the skill factor in poker.
I have been playing in brick and mortar multi-table tournaments with the following format: 10 players per table Buy-in = $0 No Rebuys Everyone gets $5000 in chips Level 1 = 50/100 with 15 min duration Level 2 = 100/200 with 15 min duration Levle 3 = 200/400 with 15 min duration Level 4 = 400/800 with 15 min duration Level 5 = 500/100 with 10 min duration Level 6 = 1000/2000 with 10 min duration Level 7 = 2000/4000 with 10 min duration Level 8 = 4000/8000 with 10 min duration Level 9 = 8000/16000 with 10 min duration Level 10 = 16000/32000 with 10 min duration Level 11 = 32000/64000 with 10 min duration My question is: --What is the best strategy to use with a tournament format of this type? |

Re: How to play an \"unfriendly tournament structure\" !
I just won a B&M sitnNgo with an unfriendly structure- 15 minute blinds, 300 chips, blinds 10/15 15/25 25/50 50/100 100/200 200/400, etc. The first time I tried it, I kept limping and then too soon I was in push or fold mode. So the next time, I vowed not to limp. I cringed when I folded J8 and the flop was JxJ but then my stack was scary in later hands. Then I won hands by calling an all in with a pair of sixes and having it hold up, and a flush hand where I had the higher flush. So my advice is 1) don't limp 2)be willing to take coin flips. 3) If you decide to play a hand, play it to the hilt. or, possibly, don't play tournaments with an unfriendly structure.

I've played in similar tournies. It sucks, but if you play aggressively smart you should be ok.

Its only unfriendly to the better players.
Just start playing aggressively as soon as the blinds begin to 'accelerate' upwards. The whole reason its unfriendly is there's not anything you can really do to eliminate the added luck factor. |
